Overview of LOICZ -CABARET

Cabaret (Computer Assisted Budget Analysis for Research, Education, and Training) is a stand-alone program  for computer platforms running MS-Windows developed to assist the user to create nutrient budgets for coastal ecosystems.  The interactive program leads the user through a series of screens in which characteristics of the system are entered.  First, the geographic location, general description, and  the number of seasons appropriate to understand the system behavior may be specified by the analyst.   Number of 'seasons' may vary from 1 to 12 (e.g. if monthly data are available).  Next, geometry and  topology of the coastal ecosystem are specified.  For example, spatially extended systems in series with multiple layers may be specified. After the number of 'boxes' and seasons are selected, the user is prompted for the information needed to characterize water flows, salinity and nutrient fluxes following the standard LOICZ methodology.

A more detailed introduction to Cabaret  in PowerPoint format is available here.  A compressed copy of Cabaret versionV2001 in zipped format (CabaretNov2001.zip) can be downloaded by clicking here.   It is an executable file which can be unpacked by double-clicking on the icon.   The file Cabaret.exe can then be run by double-clicking on its icon.
